Medicare
Today, Medicare largely overlooks the significant financial, emotional, and physical pressures facing millions of family members who provide essential care to beneficiaries. Research shows that as many as two-thirds of family caregivers feel overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed about their caregiving responsibilities, yet Medicare provides minimal support for their needs.
Medicare must evolve to better recognize and support family caregivers as the population ages and preference for home-based care grows. Caregivers partner with beneficiaries and healthcare professionals to deliver care that provides improved patient outcomes and saves money to families and communities by delaying expensive nursing home institutionalization and preventing unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits.
